Depleted Drayton bid for reinforcements
Monday 26th October 2009, 2:51PM GMT.
Market Drayton Town have stepped up their search for new players by urgently e-mailing formal requests to approach three Shropshire-based players, writes TERRY MORRIS.
The move was triggered by news that striker Tom Rogers will be sidelined for at least a fortnight with ankle ligament damage sustained in Saturday’s 3-1 UniBond League victory over Stamford.
The latest blow to Town’s already depleted squad comes as they prepare to tackle three games in five days from tomorrow.
“We had hoped to get in a couple of lads at the weekend but it did not work out,” said coach Mick Murphy. “So we issued formal notice of approach by email for three other players. I can’t name them at this stage but all are Shropshire-based.”
Rogers joins an injury list that includes key men Tom Ward and Paul McMullen and Town are also without Jason Francis, serving a suspension.
On top of that, key midfielder Duncan Horler has agreed to rejoin his former club Chasetown.
Four players have now left Greenfields in recent weeks with Grant Goodhead and James Carvey joining ex-boss Simon Line at Hednesford, while Mark Grice has gone to Leek.
A question mark hangs over the head of McMullen, who has been linked with Stafford Rangers.
