Simpson frustrated by loans ‘wall’

Saturday 24th October 2009, 12:18PM BST.

Paul simpson pensiveBoss Paul Simpson today spoke of his frustration at “hitting a brick wall” in his attempts to bring added experience to the club.

Simpson had been eager to sign one or two older players on loan over the last few days in order to try and add some know-how to a squad that have lost their last three games in a row.

His efforts proved fruitless – though he was able to complete alternative loan deals for two promising young guns that he hopes can make an immediate impact.

Striker Waide Fairhurst, 20, has joined from Championship club Doncaster, for whom he has scored twice in two starts.

And 19-year-old winger Jamie Devitt has arrived from Hull after finishing a similar arrangement with Town’s League Two rivals Darlington.

Both players were in line for debuts in this afternoon’s home clash with Aldershot at the Prostar Stadium.

“I have tried to bring more experienced players in and I am constantly hitting a brick wall,” declared Simpson.

“But I’m hoping the two we have got will add a bit of a spark to the squad and maybe give others a kick up the backside and make them realise they need to step up their game.”

l The draw for the first round of the FA Cup will be screened live on ITV1 from 1pm tomorrow.

Shrewsbury will be ball No 39 in the draw.
