Leaders to voice anger at PRH talks

Saturday 24th October 2009, 11:16AM BST.

Civic leaders in Telford & Wrekin will voice their “outrage” at a meeting they have called to discuss NHS plans which could lead to the town’s Princess Royal Hospital being downgraded.

Telford & Wrekin Council has invited both the area’s MPs, Mark Pritchard and David Wright, to address its extraordinary meeting next Thursday.

A motion, proposed by council leader Andrew Eade, and seconded by Labour group leader Keith Austin, will be considered. It reads: “This council expresses its outrage at the continuing threat to services at the Princess Royal Hospital.

“In order to reinforce their continuing commitment to the Princess Royal Hospital this council will continue to do everything within its power to protect health services that are so vital to the health and well-being of our community.”

The meeting will be held at the council’s Civic Offices at 6.30pm. Councillor Eade is also urging residents to attend a meeting of the primary care trust, NHS Telford and Wrekin, on Tuesday at 4pm at the Park Inn.

Meanwhile in Powys, Welshpool Town Council is calling for the protection of A&E services at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
