Traders told of market revamp
Friday 23rd October 2009, 11:09AM BST.
Work on the £600,000 revamp of a North Shropshire indoor market is set to go ahead earlier than expected after a meeting with traders.
It had been thought that work to redevelop Market Drayton’s indoor market hall would be delayed until the new year to avoid disruption for market stallholders.
But at a town council meeting last night, it was confirmed that traders had met with Shropshire Council officials overseeing the work on Wednesday where they were told of plans to move into temporary accommodation to allow work to begin on the market on November 30.
The former North Shropshire District Council agreed the work in December 2008 but it was delayed due to the transition to Shropshire Council in April.
Steve Law, the council’s building services manager, said: “We have been consulting with traders to make sure they know what’s happening.”
