Titans set tough target by Fielder

Friday 23rd October 2009, 11:51AM BST.

Dave FielderTelford Titans have been challenged to show their top-three potential when they play host to Blackburn Hawks in the English National League Division One this weekend.

The previous meeting between the two sides, just two weeks ago, saw Telford suffer their heaviest defeat of the season when they lost 13-4 in an ENL Cup game.

Titans coach David Fielder believes his side have the ability to be a top-three outfit, and wants to see his players display that potential on Sunday evening.

He said: ‘Our goal for this season is to finished in the middle of the table and reach the play-offs – the higher the better.

“On a good day, we can finish in the top three, but we need to be more consistent and have a full team.”

Injury worries continue to blight Fielder’s preparations for the clash with Blackburn, with five senior players still missing from the squad.

Those players missing include Daniel Brittle, Jared Owen, Jim Corfield, Simon Harrison and Kevin Parton.

Sunday’s opponents will, therefore, present a huge challenge for his patched-up side, despite them losing 5-3 in Telford last month.

Fielder added: “They had a few players back and beat us a few weeks ago, but we were short on the bench.

“Last weekend they had close games against Whitley Bay and Sheffield, so they have improved a lot after having players out at the start of the season.’

Sunday’s game faces off at 5.30pm at Telford Ice Rink.
