Suspended staff now off work with stress
Thursday 22nd October 2009, 10:53AM BST.
Control room staff at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service who were suspended and received sanctions following an internal investigation are now off work with stress, it was claimed today.
The Fire Officers’ Association claimed a number of staff who were the subject of the probe by the service had suffered ill health as a result of the situation. Alan Tranter, from the FOA union, today demanded a meeting with bosses at the service.
Five staff from the control room at the fire station in St Michael’s Street, Shrewsbury, were suspended in February and have now received sanctions after disciplinary hearings. Other control room staff have also faced disciplinary hearings.
Mr Tranter said: “We would wish . . . to sit down with the senior management team to help in consultation and construction of appropriate policies and procedures which we believe still do not exist within this organisation.”
Matt Lamb, from the Fire Brigades Union, said the FBU is working with management to improve policies and procedures.
Paul Raymond, chief fire officer at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, today declined to comment.
