Letter: Problem of late post

Wednesday 21st October 2009, 8:20AM BST.

post_boxLetter: After reading the comments sent in by Judith Williams, I wish I could get our post delivered early in the morning.

We used to live a stone’s throw away from the sorting office and our post would arrive between 10am and 11am — as I was in business at the time it really annoyed me.

Now we live at Monkmoor we get our post between 2pm and 2.30pm.

I am at present waiting for a recorded package to arrive which was sent over four weeks ago.

I think the postie does a good job, but what about the hierarchy?

The reason why you’re getting our post later is Royal Mail amalgamating certain deliveries .I use to get my post about 9am but because the postal worker now delivers to a delivery area twice as big as his original delivery, I now get it midday. This is RM’s idea of modernisation, cut the staff back and make them deliver twice as much mail. The deliveries have been mapped out by a software system called Pegasus.Pegasus gives specific times to do the “walks”, regardless of weights of bags, regardless of terrain, weather etc.,the human factor is ignored completetly.
Also despite RM’s ascertain that mail has declined 10 per cent, mail has increased especially packets due to the popularity of ebay etc.
    Hope that makes it clearer.
