Players must show strength — Chambers

Tuesday 20th October 2009, 12:39PM BST.

Larry ChambersLarry Chambers has urged AFC Telford United’s misfiring players to take individual responsibility for their current plight.

Assistant manager Chambers saw his side suffer a third straight home defeat on Saturday to drop to 11th in the Blue Square North.

He admits that is far below the expectations that they set themselves at the start of the season, but insists they can turn it around.

Their first chance to do that will come in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie away at either Blyth Spartans or Salford City – with those two replaying in the north-east tonight.

And Chambers will make hard work and focus the emphasis of this evening’s training session.

“We just need to get Saturday out of our systems,” he said. “They’ve got to take some responsibility themselves – they’ve got to start taking responsibility for their actions.

“We’ve got to pull together and be strong. We need strong characters and it is time for action, not words.”We are lacking in confidence throughout the team, but it’s at times like this that you have to be strong and get on with it.”

Midfielder Carl Rodgers played on Saturday despite suffering a suspected broken toe the previous Monday at Worcester.

He was in some discomfort by the final whistle, but is still expected to be fit .

And skipper Stuart Whitehead should also be available, despite the cut above his eye that curtailed his involvement in Saturday’s defeat to Southport.
