Big-time boxing back in Ludlow
Tuesday 20th October 2009, 12:32PM BST.
Big-time amateur boxing roars back into action for a Shropshire club this weekend.
There looked no way back for Ludlow Amateur Boxing Club when it folded 12 years ago, only for it to re-form in 2007.
And the south Shropshire club has a major date to look forward to on Friday when they stage their first dinner show for more than a decade at Ludlow.
The show is expected to feature around 14 fights, with seven of the host club’s eight active boxers in action.
And there is the added bonus of five championship fights as some of the leading young amateurs in the
Midlands continue their quest to become national champion in the Senior Novice ABAs.
“It’s a big night for the club and we are all looking forward to it,” said secretary Duncan Morris.
“We want to stage two dinner shows a year so it’s important this goes well. For the Midlands ABA to ask us to stage five title fights is a real coup.”
Tickets for the dinner show, which includes a three-course meal and gets under way at 7pm, are £35.
The first contest is due to get under way around 8.30pm, with admission for the boxing alone £12 on a pay-on-the-night basis. For more details, contact Duncan on 07890 844 418.
