Dalglish in visit to town

Liverpool FC legend Kenny Dalglish is due to visit Shrewsbury next week to meet youngsters involved in a community football project tackling anti-social behaviour.

The McDonald’s-sponsored project has proved so successful in areas of Meole Brace that the company may use it as a format for branches across the country.

Dalglish, 58, is set to visit the Powerleague facility next to Shrewsbury Town FC’s Prostar Stadium to watch a junior football match next Monday.

The former player and manager will present a man-of-the-match award to the player whom he judges to have performed the best.

Sergeant Darren Smith, from West Mercia Police, said everyone involved was delighted at the visit.

He said: “We really wanted Kenny to present this trophy and we’ve had to wait a bit longer than we wanted because he’s a busy man. A few of the players are Liverpool fans and they are absolutely delighted.”

The match between Monkmoor and Meole Brace will start at 3pm.
