Darlington 2 Shrewsbury 1
Saturday 17th October 2009, 6:23PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town went down 2-1 to present League Two’s bottom club Darlington with their first win of the season.
It had seemed Shrewsbury were on their way to a fourth away win of the campaign when Lewis Neal put them in front inside two minutes.
But the Quakers were level in the 26th minute when James Devitt fired in a free-kick which hit the post and went in off the keeper.
And they moved in front when Simon Thomas converted on 56 minutes, much to the delight of new manager Steve Staunton – the former Liverpool man who has also managed the Republic of Ireland.
Shrewsbury handed full debuts to first year pro Harry Hooman at centre-back and New Zealand striker Kris Bright.
