Newport are hoping the record book proves a true indicator of their chances ahead of tomorrow’s National League Division Three Midlands clash at Malvern.

The men from Forton Road have traditionally notched up some impressive victories on previous trips to the Worcestershire club.

And they are hoping for more of the same tomorrow as they look to get back to winning ways.

“Neither of us have started the season particularly well,” said director of rugby Ray Price. “We’ve been struggling for points so it’s a massive game for us.

“We’ve got a reasonable track record down there over the years. We did the

double over them last year and also in the year we got promoted as well.

“But they gave us a good, close game at Newport last season and that is a reminder that we can take nothing for granted.”

Hooker Matthew Ing could return, though he will need a late fitness test on the sternum injury that has sidelined him for the last few weeks.

Sam Lewis (ribs) and Adam Faulkener (concussion) are both ruled out. James Curgenven is also set for an extended period out, with his broken arm back in plaster.

Luctonians will be going for their third win in a row when they take on Peterborough at Mortimer Park.

The North Herefordshire club have beaten Malvern and Newport in the past fortnight and will be aiming to consolidate against Peterborough, who have won three of their six games.

“Peterbrough can be a Jekyll and Hyde side because you never know what team they are going to field, ” said Lucs spokesman Robin East.

“They beat us twice last season so hopefully we can take revenge at Mortimer Park.”

Hereford will want to get back on winning track following their defeat at Bromsgrove when they take on South Leicester.

“We should have beaten Bromsgrove but now we have top start again and bounce back on Saturday,” said Hereford coach John Watkins.

Skipper Matt Pritchard, who has returned to the squad following an injury, will lead the Hereford charge.
