Lottery millionaires gather for celebration
Friday 16th October 2009, 8:00PM BST.

Daryl and David Bowden, from Market Drayton, who won 6.75 million in the Palethorpes syndicate. They are seen with Rhys Davies from Clun, left, who won £100,000 on a scratchcard.
A multitude of millionaires gathered on the Shropshire/ Staffordshire border this morning to toast the 15th birthday of the National Lottery.
Some of the county’s biggest winners gathered for the champagne celebration bash at Weston Park, near Shifnal.
They included the 33-strong syndicate from the Palethorpe’s Pie factory in Market Drayton, which scooped a massive £6 million three years ago.
Members today said life was still good following the win and one winner, David Bowden, still works there as a meat packer.
Also at the bash was Rhys Davies, of Clun, who will be cheering on the England cricket team in South Africa this winter with the proceeds from his £100,000 scratch card win bought from his mother’s shop in the village.
Lucky lottery winners in Shropshire have scooped tens of millions from an incredible £908,722,933 West Midlands jackpot since the competition was launched in 1994.
The biggest county winners were Louise and Keith Gough, of Bridgnorth, who scooped £9,001,406 in June 2005.
Big winners also include David and Marina Williams, of Telford, who won £968,792 in September 2008.
Julian Fisher, spokesman for the National Lottery, said the remarkable thing about Shropshire winners was that they always collected their prizes.
He said: “In other parts of the country, prizes can go unclaimed for a variety of reasons. However, our data shows that in Shropshire, people always follow through and claim their winnings.”
