Parents can now take a virtual tour of the £22 million development planned for Telford’s Abraham Darby school.
The new sports and learning community is set to house 900 students plus an additional 200 places for post-16 youngsters.
Abraham Darby will be the first to benefit from a £200 million project to rebuild and revamp schools around Telford.
The virtual tour takes visitors through the corridors and into various rooms, revealing the size of classrooms, computer suites and even the dining area.
The new sports and learning community will also have a built-in leisure centre and swimming pool as well as a brand new fitness suite, which has been supported by NHS Telford & Wrekin.
Plans for the development, at the Hill Top in Madeley, also include the co-location of Woodlands Primary School, which will be re-built.
The building designs will go before planners in January next year and if given the green light, construction will begin in March, with an anticipated opening date of September 2011.
The next schools to be rebuilt will be the Lord Silkin in Stirchley and Phoenix School in Dawley.
Councillor Stephen Burrell, the council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “We started with an ambitious vision and to be at the point where we can reveal a virtual tour of the first development is a major milestone for the borough.”
He added: “The transformation of our educational estate into state of the art sports and learning communities forms a cornerstone of Telford & Wrekin Council’s Borough Towns Initiative.”

Looks nice enough. Its a shame they plan to demolish the historic part of the school it has architectural merit.

This style of architecture varies little across schools, colleges, universities, Hypermarkets, science parks, the alternative new is now .. so naughties, just when they run out.
It’s seems vision for the future still means dump the past totally and glass/steel/aluminium/etc is everything. All the same, I hope its sucessful, I hope they check for uncharted old mines as well.

The initial white round bit reminded me of a Prison…

No mention of what they’re going to do with the Woodlands School site, or Madeley Court Sports Centre – not more housing by any chance?
