No charges for man over brick which hit fan
Wednesday 14th October 2009, 11:34AM BST.
A 19-year-old man who was arrested after a Shropshire teenage football fan was injured when a brick was thrown through the window of a coach carrying fans will not be prosecuted.
The coach was carrying AFC Telford United fans from the Forest Green Rovers ground in Nailsworth, Glos, when the brick was thrown.
It hit 14-year-old Ryan Asson, of Dawley Bank, Telford, causing facial injuries including a broken nose and a gash which needed 15 stitches. Doctors also removed up to 20 shards of glass from his eyes.
Crown prosecutors have decided there is insufficient evidence to charge the man, who was arrested after the incident last April.
Ryan, a pupil at the Phoenix School in Dawley, suffered deep cuts to his nose and right eye and also a scratched left retina. He was with his father Kevin Stallard, of Newdale, Telford, when the brick was thrown.
Detective Inspector Jan Blomfield said: “Gloucestershire Police acted diligently to investigate this incident but it is right that we respect the decision of the CPS.
“We would like to reassure the public that incidents of this nature are very rare and we work regularly with the Forest Green Football club to prevent and combat football related anti-social behaviour.” Anyone with new information can call 0845 0901234.
