Golfers’ course ‘will stay in town’

Wednesday 14th October 2009, 10:52AM BST.

golf-holeShrewsbury’s public golf course and pitch and putt, which was once feared could be transformed into a hotel development, has been safeguarded indefinitely, a councillor said today.

The golf course at Meole Brace has previously been earmarked as a possible multi-million pound money spinner for the local authority if it was sold off to developers.

But Councillor Peter Nutting, Shropshire Council cabinet member for assets, said there were no plans to offload the site and said he expected it to remain a golf course and pitch and putt.

Councillor Nutting said: “There are abs- olutely no plans to do anything whatsoever with the golf course and as far as I’m concerned it is safe indefinitely.”
