Further tributes have been paid to a teenager who died in a road smash in Shropshire.

More than 680 people have joined a tribute group on the social networking website Facebook in tribute to 17-year-old Matthew Latham-Jones, who died in a crash near Wem on Saturday morning.

The accident happened on the B5476 at Sleap at about 1.45am involving a blue Nissan Almera which left the road and crashed into the front of a house in Shrewsbury Road.

The driver and a passenger, both in their early 20s, were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by ambulance. Matthew, who was also a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far more than 130 messages have been left on the Facebook site paying tribute to the teenager.

The group, entitled R.I.P Matty Latham Jones, also features a number of photographs of the teenager, as well as a video.

Tributes left on the site include one from Emily Simon which reads: “R.I.P Matty…one of the kindest lads ever xxxxxxxxx.”

Richard Ewels, West Mercia police spokesman, said a post mortem examination had been carried out yesterday morning and formal identification was expected to take place today.

The circumstances of the crash are being investigated.
