Thousands were this weekend  joining the queues to be among the last to see the Staffordshire Hoard in the West Midlands before it is taken away to London for valuation.

Intrigued visitors from across the globe have flocked to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, queueing for up to four hours to get a glimpse of the Anglo-Saxon treasure which was discovered in a farmer’s field on theBurntwood/Brownhills border.

The hoard is already on course to become the city’s most popular ever exhibition, with more than 40,000 people lining up to see the gold since it went on show on September 25.
