Defeat for champions

Castlefields were crowned £1,000 champions of the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League – but they could not add to their pool of cash on finals night at Bylet, writes MALCOLM FLETCHER.

The Shrewsbury giants were presented with the main trophy for the second year in a row, but only after losing by 30 chalks in the Pool A final to Chester Road, who were repeating their County Cup triumph over Fields.

Newport won the eight-a-side Pool B final played on the bigger green at the top notch Bridgnorth venue, Shropshire Star County Merit winner Alan Davidson setting the tone with a 21-9 card in a 32 shot success over Wem USC.
