Taylor scores new honour

Friday 9th October 2009, 10:33AM BST.

Former Shropshire batsman James Taylor has picked up another top cricket award.

The former Shrewsbury School student has been named the winner of the John Arlott Cup for the NatWest PCA Young Player of the Year.

He beat off competition from England players Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid to win the award.

Leicestershire batsman Taylor has already been named the Cricket Writers Club Young Player of the Year and Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year.

He represented the county at under-15s and under-17s level before appearing for Shropshire, and also played for Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League before joining the Foxes for the 2008 season while still at Shrewsbury School

The England under-19 international showed composure to hit 207 not out against Surrey at the Brit Oval in July and also helped himself to three 100s and six 50s during the season.
