Thompson’s goal is to revive his career
Thursday 8th October 2009, 12:54PM BST.
New striker Steve Thompson hopes to re-launch his career by hitting the goal trail for AFC Telford United.
The 20-year-old has signed a contract to the end of the season after negotiating his release from League Two side Port Vale, having not figured under new boss Micky Adams.
Now he hopes to fire Telford back towards the top of the Blue Square North table, and serve notice of his capabilities to the clubs in the professional ranks.
“It’s all about taking two steps back to take two steps forward,” said Thompson.
“It’s been disappointing that things haven’t worked out at Port Vale, but it’s all about opinions and I have to respect that.
“Hopefully I can come in here and score a few goals.”
Meanwhile, the Bucks are hunting for a new goalkeeper coach to work with Ryan Young after Dean Williams resigned due to business commitments elsewhere.
Ex-Telford keeper Williams had been in the role since November last year, when he was recruited to replace Nick Cipolla.
l Former Telford United great Les Wilson has been named as the first of the latest batch of players who will be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
Wilson played for the club throughout the 1950s, making 273 appearances and scoring 54 goals at inside or outside left.
He went on to serve on the club’s coaching staff for many years and was made a life member of the club before he passed away in 2007.
Members of Wilson’s family will accept the accolade at the club’s second annual Legends Night on Wednesday, November 18 – where three other as-yet unnamed players will also be inducted.
Tickets, priced £16, are available by calling 01939-260099 or 07971-979261 or by emailing Jonathan.Martin@afctu.co.uk
