Sculpture to have official unveiling

Shrewsbury’s controversial Quantum Leap sculpture celebrating the life of the town’s most famous son, Charles Darwin, was set to be officially unveiled at a ceremony today.
The naturalist’s great-great-grandson Randal Keynes is due to be in the town this afternoon to dedicate the sculpture in honour of the Shrewsbury-born scientist whose groundbreaking theory of evolution rocked Victorian society to its core
Mr Keynes is to carry out the dedication at 4pm.
The ceremony will take place following a conference at Theatre Severn focusing on how public art and culture helps regeneration.
Speakers will draw on examples including a number of well-known projects such as the Angel of the North.
The budget for the sculpture, which has divided opinion in the town, has risen to £450,000 – £100,000 more than originally planned.
