Millionaire’s inner-city experience

Thursday 8th October 2009, 12:29PM BST.

Dominic ListA self-made millionaire from a village near Market Drayton went undercover in one of the most violent parts of London as part of Channel 4′s Secret Millionaire series.

Businessman Dominic List, from Ashley Heath, was seen working with teenagers, some of whom were involved with gangs, on the show last night.

He was seen handing out more than £30,000 to people he met while filming the programme in Peckham.

Mr List also found a new home for one teenager whose story moved him, paid for his family to go on holiday and gave him paid work experience.

He paid for a group of young petrol heads to watch Formula Two at Brands Hatch and also refurbished a room at a youth club. And he pledged his ongoing support.

Despite fears at first he would not fit in, the Lamborghini-driving 36-year-old, who is worth £10 million with his business Comtact Technology, appeared to form strong friendships with a number of the people he met and was able to help.

Today Mr List, a former pupil of Hugo Meynell Primary School in Loggerheads, said friends and family from the Market Drayton area had flooded him with calls and messages following last night’s broadcast.

He said today: “It’s been a great experience and the programme reminds viewers people and places should never be written off.”
