David Cameron today set out his stall to become the next Prime Minister by telling the nation: “I’m ready.”
The Tory leader pledged to lead Britain out of the recession. He warned voters “tough” and “painful” times lay ahead to reduce the country’s £175bn budget deficit – promising to confront Britain’s “culture of irresponsibility”.
And he acknowledged “how bad things are” but encouraged the country to face up to its problems of “massive debt, social breakdown, political disenchantment”.
In contrast to shadow chancellor George Osborne’s speech earlier this week, Mr Cameron’s crucial hour-long address to Tory activists – and the public at large – was upbeat. He offered an optimistic vision of the future under a Conservative government – and urged the British public to think about “how good things could be”.
Mr Cameron said: “Don’t get me wrong, I have no illusions. If we win this election, it is going to be tough.
“We will be tested. I will be tested. I’m ready for that – and so I believe, are the British people. So yes, there is a steep climb ahead. But I tell you this: The view from the summit will be worth it.”
In a personal appeal at the last party conference before the next general election, he asked the electorate to trust him.
He promised a Conservative government would “reward those who take responsibility” and support families, savers, entrepreneurs, have-a-go heroes and troops.
“I won’t promise you things I cannot deliver,” he said.
“But I can look you in the eye and tell you, that in a Conservative Britain: If you put in the effort to bring in a wage, you will be better off. If you save money your whole life, you’ll be rewarded. If you start your own business, we’ll be right behind you. If you want to raise a family, we’ll support you. If you’re frightened, we’ll protect you. If you risk your safety to stop a crime, we’ll stand by you. If you risk your life to fight for your country, we will honour you.”
And he added: “Ask me what a Conservative government stands for and the answer is this: We will reward those who take responsibility and care for those who can’t.”

You might be ready but I am not.
I still have very vivid memories of Thatcher I am afraid.
Tell us your policies before hand and stop relying on the country to kick out labour.

He has spent the past few days in Manchester spelling out his policies Exile and they are honest, detailed and comprehensive. Tell us what Labour said about theirs in Brighton, not one new policy but a lot of promises to spend, spend, spend. In other words to make our situation worse than what they already have made it.
As for Thatcher, she got us out of a very, very similar Labour debacle when Healey (Labour Chancellor) almost bankrupted this country. If you are a genuine exile, tell us why you got “out” if you love this Labour lot so dearly, given the chance many of us would get out because we hate what Labour has done to our country, we have a good reason to leave, what was yours.

Einstein, a noted non-thicko, once gave his definition of insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get different results.
This appears to be a lesson that is always forgotten by the public when it comes to Party based Politics. We flip-flop between them – Why so? Because they always end up being a bunch of duffers, so we vote in the other lot out of desperation rather than because of some concept of them being philosophically, strategically better (although we may kid ourselves that we are doing so – ‘Oh, it’ll be different THIS time!’). This is a break/fix/break/fix repeat model – a model based on failure.
In another country they do things very differently – there the nation is split-up into regions and in each they vote in individuals who have some area of expertise in the ministerial position they’d like to hold. For example, in say the West-Midlands you have 4 candidates who come from varied Education based backgrounds but all propose how they think Education should be run – they say what they’d like to do and the people vote accordingly. One wins and becomes part of a national Education board joining others from the other regions of the nation, where the policies for the nation are determined. This is repeated for all ministerial positions.
Result: Professionals in charge, as opposed to Professional Politicians; Government through consensus; One of, if not, the fastest growing economies in the world.
Of course it’s not all fun and games there – they have a one party system, not like us who have ….oh, hang on…forget it.
