Mixed news on county jobs
Wednesday 7th October 2009, 12:54PM BST.
More than 80 jobs are to be created in Shropshire with the expansion of an industrial estate and a scheme to slash unemployment.
But a number of jobs will also be lost in another part of the county.
Outdoor specialists Blacks and Milletts are closing two stores in Telford.
Bosses at Sandford Industrial Park, near Prees, want planners to approve the development of 20 industrial units, bringing 64 full-time jobs.
Three new buildings would house the units and plans also include a 104-space car park and estate roads which developers say will bring investment to the Whitchurch area.
And up to 20 new jobs are being unveiled by Pertemps People Development Group, which has secured the contract to deliver the Government’s Welfare to Work strategy in the county.
Based at Central Park, in Telford, the team will help Shropshire jobseekers find work.
The company is also about to open additional sites in Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, and at the Memorial Hall in Oswestry, as part of the Government’s Flexible New Deal scheme.
Chief Executive Colin Birchall said: “After delivering contracts successfully in other parts of the UK, we are relishing the exciting challenges that lie ahead in Telford and Shropshire.”
Meanwhile, Blacks on the Forge Retail Park and Millets in Dean Square, Telford Town Centre, will shut this month and it is understood at least 15 jobs will be axed.
Millets and Blacks stores in Shrewsbury are not believed to be affected.
