Bucks swoop for pedigree new forward

AFC Telford United have raided the Football League for a new striker as they attempt to ignite their Blue Square North challenge.
The Bucks have signed Port Vale forward Steve Thompson on a contract until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old began his career at Middlesbrough, then of the Premier League, where he came through their youth and academy ranks.
He moved to Port Vale at the start of last season and, despite being troubled by a hamstring problem, made 17 appearances – five as a starter – and scored two goals, including one against Shrewsbury Town.
But he has struggled for football under new Vale boss Micky Adams this term and, after a one-month loan spell at Stafford Rangers, has now agreed to a permanent switch to Telford.
“We have had to be quite patient with Steve but I have spoken to Micky Adams over the last few days and we we are pleased to have come to an agreement,” said assistant manager Larry Chambers today.
“He is tenacious, very, very quick and he has got an eye for goal.
“Steve has got a good pedigree, having been at Middlesbrough. We have had him watched at Stafford and we think he can be a big threat for us.
“He played in 17 Football League games last season and we have got him until the end of the season and then we can take it from there.”
Having not played in the FA Cup for Stafford, Thompson will be available for this weekend’s visit of Worcester in the third qualifying round.
And, with last week’s departure of Iyseden Christie after just three weeks at the club, Chambers has welcomed the introduction of a new forward.
