Region set for inch of rainfall
Tuesday 6th October 2009, 2:01PM BST.
At least an inch of rain was expected to fall on Shropshire and Mid Wales later today as the region moved further into autumn.
But John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, said it was the first real rainfall in about four weeks.
Between a quarter and half-an-inch of rain was forecast for this morning before drying out for the rest of the day.
And overnight, the rain was expected to get heavier. Mr Warner said: “It’s the first real rainfall we have had for four weeks, we can’t complain. It has been extraordinarily dry.
“We had one downpour in early September, but only an inch of rain in August and an inch of rain in September. So we are way below what we should be getting. The forecast is for a wet winter.”
He said it should become drier tomorrow and Thursday before more rain on Friday. Mr Warner added it was also muggy with temperatures of 17C.
