Bucks to sign new striker
Tuesday 6th October 2009, 12:43PM BST.
AFC Telford United are set to move for a new striker ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Worcester City.
The Bucks have already held talks with a mystery target, and could have him on board within the next couple of days.
He would be available for the FA Cup third qualifying round tie – but Tamworth loan duo Gavin Hurren and Stuart Nicholson will not be involved.
“We hope to have made a new signing within the next 24 to 48 hours,” assistant manager Larry Chambers confirmed.
“There’s just a few more things that need to be sorted, but we are close.
“Neither of the two Tamworth lads will be available for Saturday and their loan deals come to an end after that.
“We’ll be talking to Gary Mills (the Tamworth manager) next week to decide where we go from there.”
Meanwhile, Chambers has moved to insist that midfielder Jamie Vermiglio could still have a future with the Bucks – if he gets back to full fitness.
Vermiglio, who is on non-contract terms at Telford, has now been registered with UniBond League side Chorley and made his debut for them in an FA Trophy game on Saturday.
Chorley face Northwich in the FA Cup this weekend, and the 27-year-old must decide whether he wants to make himself cup-tied in that competition as well.
“We don’t really want him cup-tied, but we’ll talk to him at training and see how it goes from there,” said Chambers.
“Jamie hasn’t played a lot in the last six months and, unfortunately, has been riddled with injuries.
“Rather than sit on the bench for us, it’s better that he goes and plays games.”
- Telford wanted to reduce admission prices for Saturday’s Cup clash, but could not get approval from Worcester for that decision. Entry will therefore be £11 for adults, £8 for concessions and £1 for under-16s.
