Moss warns over Hibbert threat

Friday 2nd October 2009, 11:59AM BST.

Darren MossDarren Moss has placed current club Morecambe on red alert over former team-mate Dave Hibbert when Shrewsbury head to Christie Park tomorrow.

Hibbert has already bagged eight goals during a barn-storming start to the season for Town.

And defender Moss has understandably identified Shrewsbury’s on-song No 9 as the principal threat tomorrow.

“I am pleased for Hibbo because he was a bit in and out of things last season but he has obviously worked hard over the summer and has made a great start,” said Moss.

“We have spoken at Morecambe about the threat he poses. He will be confident and we know we can’t afford to give him chances in the box.”

Moss, who rejected the offer of a new contract at Town in the summer, has made something of a mixed start to life by the seaside.

He has played in three different positions – right back and on the right and left of three central defenders – and was due to be left out of the team for the 1-1 draw at Dagenham last week before being struck down by illness.

But he is confident of being involved in the 18 tomorrow, and is hopeful Morecambe – who are on an unbeaten run of eight which includes seven draws – will soon rise from their current position of 19th.

“We have been playing well to be honest,” added Moss, who still remains in regular contact with his former Town team mates, including Kevin McIntyre.

“I thought we were a bit lucky to get a point at Dagenham last week but we have probably deserved a bit more than we have got from some of the other games.

“We have played a lot of the pre-season favourites and not been beaten so I’m sure we will soon be climbing the table.

“We know tomorrow will be a really tough game with the form Shrewsbury are in but the team spirit is good so hopefully we can get a good result and push on.”
