Christie parts company after his short stay
Friday 2nd October 2009, 11:29AM BST.
Striker Iyseden Christie’s brief stint at AFC Telford United has come to an end – as the Bucks prepare their bid to topple Blue Square North leaders Droyslden tomorrow.
Christie and Telford have parted ways after the striker spent just three weeks and made two starts for the club.
The 32-year-old, whose former clubs include Leyton Orient, Mansfield and Rochdale, made his debut in the 4-0 defeat at Alfreton before picking up a hamstring problem in a 1-1 draw with Eastwood.
“Iyseden has gone,” manager Rob Smith confirmed today.
“He came here to try and help us out and we knew he needed to get his fitness back.
“He picked up the injury against Eastwood and it’s not really worked out for him.
“It was a decision made by both parties and hopefully we will be bringing in a striker in the early part of the next week.
“We have been working for a while to get the right one and hopefully we are close now.”
Smith’s immediate priority is to pick up a home victory over current table-toppers Droyslden tomorrow in front of what is expected to be a 2,000-plus crowd.
“I think it’s a really attractive fixture,” said Smith.
“They are the best footballing side in our division by a country mile and they let nothing compromise how attack minded they want to be.
“You have to have a game plan to stop them or otherwise you will get steam-rollered.
“Even at this early stage of the season it’s a very big game because it could be the difference between us being two or eight points behind them.”
Tomorrow begins a crucial run of three home matches with next week’s FA Cup clash with Worcester followed by the visit of high-flying Southport.
“I’ve seen some encouraging signs over the last few weeks and we know if we can come through this run of games with the right results, we will be in very good shape,” added Smith.
More than 4,000 tickets have been handed out in recent weeks in a bid to boost the crowd.
