Lives put at risk by salon arson attack
Thursday 1st October 2009, 10:20AM BST.
Arsonists poured a flammable liquid through the letterbox of a Shropshire business before setting it alight, putting the lives of residents sleeping above at risk, police said today.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the fire at Eclipse Hair and Nail Studio in Shifnal, which they are treating as arson with intent to danger life.
Officers today appealed for witnesses to the blaze which happened in Cheapside yesterday at about 1am to come forward.
Detective Constable Oliver Ewels said: “Fortunately, the fire service was alerted and were able to put the fire out before it spread. Thankfully, no-one was hurt.
“However, the incident is being investigated as arson with intent to endanger life.
“I am appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious which might be connected, or who has information about those responsible, to please contact me at Bridgnorth police station on 0300 333 3000.”
Kerry Tuck, owner of the salon, of St Georges, said today: “I was shocked when I came back off holiday to find what had happened.
“We have since spent all the time clearing up but we are now open for business again.”
