Drayton’s magicians pull it off yet again

Wednesday 30th September 2009, 10:16AM BST.

Market Drayton manager Simon Line said his side revelled in underdog tag as Town’s magicians pulled another result out of the hat with a 1-0 win over title favourites Chasetown.

The win lifts Drayton to fourth in UniBond League division one south, a position few outside Greenfields would have predicted before the start of the season.

But Line was always confident that Drayton would compete at this level.

He said: “I never thought we’d struggle. We will upset a few this season but that’s the way this club is. We thrive on being underdogs.

“Against the odds we pulled out a great result. That’s the way I like it and that’s the way we’ve always got our success as a club – and long may it continue.”

Drayton face a testing week of fixtures with a tough FA Trophy tie on Saturday against Bamber Bridge, before two sides ahead of them in the table – Leek and Rushall Olympic – provide the next league opposition.

And Line is hopeful that the squad can continue there recent good form – with a cup defeat to Conference North giants Gainsborough Trinity the only loss since the opening day of the season.

“We’ve got a great run of games but that’s the way we want it,” he added. “There is no pressure on us. If we win it’s fantastic and it’s another three points for us.

“We’ll go against Bamber Bridge and we’ll give them a good game. Then we’ve got Leek at home and they won’t fancy coming down here.”

But despite the encouraging start Town’s boss insisted he is not getting carried away with thoughts of a second successive promotion. “Survival is still our main aim,” he stressed.
