Tuesday 29th September 2009, 11:29AM BST.

Monty Python star and former Shrewsbury School pupil Michael Palin is set to return to the school this week to give a talk about Charles Darwin.

The intrepid traveller will be guest of honour and speaker at a meeting of the Shropshire branch of the Geographical Association and the Salopian Club at the school’s Allingham Hall on Thursday night.

Peter Fanning, of the school, said he was looking forward to welcoming Mr Palin back.

He said: “Michael Palin is heading back to Shrewsbury School on Thursday night to give a talk all about Charles Darwin.

“Shrewsbury to the World: A Debt to Darwin, will be told to the branch of the geographical association and the Salopian Club.

“We expect it will be a wonderful occasion and we are really looking forward to welcoming Mr Palin back.”

The last time the TV and film star attended the school was back in 2005 for a fundraiser in aid of the Prince’s Trust.

Mr Fanning added: “We expect it will be an extremely popular event and there will be many many people flocking to the event. Therefore, we advise members of the clubs to come early if they plan on attending, because he is a very popular man.”

Mr Palin, 66, shot to fame with starring roles in the Monty Python TV series and films.

He has also fronted shows such as Michael Palin: Around the World in 80 Days, Himalaya with Michael Palin and Ripping Yarns.
