Craig stars in Twenty20

Tuesday 29th September 2009, 10:47AM BST.

A former Shropshire cricketer has guided his new club to national glory in the ECB Cockspur Club Twenty20.

Craig De Weymarn, formerly of Wellington, captained Bournemouth to success on finals day at Derby yesterday.

The 27-year-old also had the honour of hitting the winning runs in the final victory over Ockbrook & Borrowash during an innings of 23 off 14 balls.

“It needed a cool head in the final and Craig provided that and we are really pleased for him,” said Terry O’Connor, spokesman at Wellington, where De Weymarn played from a junior until 2005 before moving south with work commitments.

The powerful batsman also played Shropshire junior cricket and captained the county under-21 side.
