Bucks wait to sign Newton from Barrow
Tuesday 29th September 2009, 11:15AM BST.
Left-back Sean Newton will stay with AFC Telford United for another month – but boss Rob Smith must wait to make his switch from Barrow permanent.
The Bucks boss had hoped to complete a permanent deal for the 20-year-old this week, with Newton having impressed over the last month.
But a series of injuries afflicting the Cumbrian club’s squad means their management team of Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan are not yet ready to let him go.
“It’s another month for now, because they’ve got a lot of injuries and were reluctant to let him go at the moment,” Telford chief Rob Smith revealed.
“I don’t think they’ll call him back during the month and I think they’ve just taken this decision as a precaution really, which is understandable.
“I still think there’s a lot more to come from Sean. He keeps us nice and steady at the back and we’re not in bad nick.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Jamie Vermiglio is linking up with his former club Chorley in order to help him gain match fitness after a long absence with a groin injury.
Teacher Vermiglio will also be re-united with former Telford striker Terry Fearns, who left the Bucks under a cloud last season and joined Chorley over the summer.
He is in line to make his debut for the UniBond League club tonight in their Lancashire FA United Co-operative Challenge Trophy clash at Colne.
“It’s a dual registration thing, and Jamie will play for them until he feels he has got enough games under his belt to come back into contention here,” Smith added.
“Rudy (Farquharson, the club physio) reckons he needs four or five games to get back to fitness and we’ll see how he comes through those games.”
Chorley will be involved in F Cup third qualifying round action away at Northwich Victoria a week on Saturday.
But Vermiglio will miss that one so that he will not be cup-tied for Telford, should they progress in the competition.
