Vandals lay gates on busy road
Monday 28th September 2009, 2:30PM BST.
Vandals ripped heavy gates from the entrance to a Shropshire adventure centre and placed them across a busy county road.
Drivers were forced to take evasive action to avoid the bulky metal gates torn from the entrance of the Edge Adventure Centre and laid across the width of the A458 Much Wenlock to Bridgnorth road early yesterday.
Now officers are appealing for witnesses to help catch the “irresponsible” vandals, who also defaced posters displayed on the centre’s fences.
Constable Stuart Lippitt, local officer for Much Wenlock and Morville, said several vehicles drove over the gates lying across the unlit road before they were removed by other motorists.
He said police were particularly interested in tracing two vehicles parked up by the centre, which offers BMX and quad bike scrambling, at about 2.55am yesterday.
“It is suspected that they were responsible for removing the gates from the hinges and placing them across both lanes of the A458,” added Constable Lippitt.

This could have caused a really nasty accident. The idiots that did this are a mindless inconsiderate vandals, nothing less, and should be given the birch when caught.

@Woody: careful there – that’s bound to infringe their human rights, and probably a couple of eu regulations as well.

A totally reckless act of vandalism – as a regular night time user of the road this is either at the end of a higher speed stretch or just after a climb and some bends – the effect on a car at any speed over 40 would be devastating and for a motorbike probably fatal.
Birching is too good – what about hang, draw and quarter down The Edge.
I’m sure most of Much Wenlock would turn out for it – perhaps we could make it an annual event?
