Danny vowing to blaze a goal trail

Danny Carey-BertramStriker Danny Carey-Bertram has pledged to keep on scoring after breaking his goal drought to help AFC Telford United earn an FA Cup victory.

The former Hereford hitman was on target as the Bucks beat Pegasus Juniors 4-1 on Saturday to get their name in the hat for today’s third qualifying round draw.

It was his first goal of the campaign after 11 appearances, but the 25-year-old now has his sights set on getting close to the 21 he netted last season.

“It’s been very frustrating, so I’m very relieved to finally get my first goal, and hopefully I can kick on from here,” said Carey-Bertram.

“In general, I don’t think I’ve been playing badly, but the chances haven’t been coming that often.

“As a striker you’re there to score goals. I wouldn’t say it had knocked my confidence but it was frustrating and I had started to ask myself when it was going to come.

“Hopefully I can make up for last time and score a few more. There’s still a lot of games left and I’ll be looking to get around the same as I did last season.

“I was cup-tied when I came here last season, so it was good for me to score in my first FA Cup game for the club.”

Telford ran out easy winners against Hellenic League side Pegasus, an own goal getting them started before Andy Brown and Steve Torpey joined Carey-Bertram on the scoresheet.

But assistant manager Larry Chambers refused to get carried away with the manner of their performance.

“It was pleasing to score four goals,” he said. “It was very disappointing to concede in the manner that we did, but if I could sum the game up I’d say we were wasteful in possession – as we have been all season.

“We were wasteful in terms of taking our chances, wasteful with our passing and wasteful in the final third generally.

“But we’re through to the next round and that’s the main thing.”
