A Shropshire man, who was diagnosed with epilepsy four years ago, has died following a seizure aged just 25.

The family of Daniel Peter Lewis, from Castlefields, in Shrewsbury, today paid tribute to the man they said would be remembered for his “beautiful poetry and quick wit”.

The former Martin Wilson Primary School and Belvidere School pupil had lived in Shrewsbury since he moved to the town with his family from Gibraltar at the age of three.

He had worked for a number of companies around Shrewsbury including Dawson News, McDonalds and Salop Design where he worked on a sheet press but he had to give up work when his seizures became worse.

His last job was at Salop Laundry in Shrewsbury which he left last year due to ill health.

The keen football fan, who supported West Ham, died on September 12.

His mother Jain Lewis, 49, said Daniel, who was also known as Danny, was close to his two brothers Jimmy, 20, and Billy, 18, and his sisters twins Katie and Bethany, 15.

She said he was also passionate about football and the written word.

“He was a fanatical West Ham fan, his life revolved around them, he watched them on TV and studied the game.

“He also wrote beautiful poetry and was very clever, quick-witted and funny.

“If you gave him a word he’d make it into a rap or a poem in seconds,” she said.

Mrs Lewis said Daniel often wrote poems or changed the words to songs to make them about people he knew to amuse friends and family.

She said after her son was diagnosed he found it difficult to accept his condition but he had stuck to his poetry and enjoyed spending time with friends.

She added that Daniel had loved living in Shrewsbury and had lived in the Castlefields area from when they first moved to England.

Mrs Lewis said: “He’ll be remembered for his sense of humour. He liked to go round to his friends and out in Shrewsbury.”

A funeral service is due to be held on Friday at 12noon at Emstrey Crematorium followed by a get together at the Brooklands Pub, in Meole Brace.

The family have requested family flowers only with any donations to go to The Severn Hospice.
