Police plea for information on rape

Saturday 26th September 2009, 10:21AM BST.

Police hunting a rapist who subjected a young woman to a terrifying attack in Telford are following up a number of leads after receiving hundreds of tip-offs from the public.

But they today urged people who might have vital clues which could help the investigation to still come forward.

The attack happened at about 5pm on August 11 as the victim, a woman in her 20s, was making her way towards Randlay from Stafford Park.

She was walking along the footpath between the A442 Eastern Primary and the railway line and was about to cross the red and white footbridge over the Eastern Primary when the man pulled her into a wooded area close to the railway line and raped her.

A £10,000 reward has already been offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

Detective sergeant Mark Jones, of Telford CID, said: “We have had a good response and we are still actively following up a number of leads but we are still appealing for information from anybody that feels they may recognise the person in the artist’s impression.”

Police are keen to speak to a cyclist wearing red shorts, who may have seen the attacker, to come forward.

Anyone with information about the attack or who recognises the attacker, who had evidence of old acne scars on his face, should contact police on 0300 333 3000 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
