Flypast treat for Wrekin walk youngsters
Friday 25th September 2009, 5:01PM BST.

Youngsters at a Shropshire school were treated to an RAF flypast when they climbed to the summit of The Wrekin today.
More than 400 pupils, staff and volunteers from Newdale Primary School donned their walking boots, and once they reached the top they had their photograph taken by an RAF helicopter, flown by Flight Lieutenant Giles Smith.
The school is raising cash for Macmillan Cancer Support and the youngsters held up charity banners as the helicopter flew past.
Before the climb headteacher Rachel Cook said the whole school was involved in the project.
“We are only leaving one administrator in the school,” she said.
“Our school has fantastic views of The Wrekin and we have some children here who have never been up it and we want the children to have done it at least once in their lifetime,” she added.
On choosing Macmillan, Miss Cook said: “This is the first time we have raised money for Macmillan and we just decided to choose someone different.
“The school council, who are made up of pupils in each year, make the decision and they chose Macmillan.
“We always choose a local charity and we know how much work the Macmillan nurses do.
“We are going to make copies of the photographs and sell them to our families and then give that money to Macmillan as well.”
