Darwin movie premiere

A major new Hollywood film celebrating the life of Shrewsbury-born Charles Darwin has received its regional premiere in Shropshire.
Creation was shown at the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury last night – a day before it went on general release around the UK.
It gave people an early chance to see the acclaimed film about the life of Darwin, which features an award-winning cast including Paul Bettany, Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly, Jeremy Northam and Toby Jones.
The film focuses on a young Darwin and the ideas that shaped his life.
It has been released to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his work On the Origin of Species.
Jon King, Darwin200 officer at Shropshire Council, said dignitaries attended the sold-out preview last night.
He said: “We’re quite privileged to have that showing in Shrewsbury. Everybody treated it like a premiere with people dressed up. It was a really good night.”
The showing of the movie is one of a number of events taking place across Shrewsbury to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Darwin
The film focuses on a young Darwin and the ideas that shaped his life and premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
It is described as “part ghost story, part psychological thriller, part heart-wrenching love story”.
The film will be shown at the Old Market Hall until October 8.
