Children’s bikes stolen from nursery
Thursday 24th September 2009, 3:27PM BST.
Thieves broke into a Telford nursery and stole children’s bikes worth hundreds of pounds.
Children arrived at Club 0-5 in Halesfield 20 to discover six of their bikes had been stolen from a locked shed and other bikes and toys had been smashed up.
Police today said the break-in happened sometime over the weekend and appealed for witnesses.
Nursery manager Rebecca Fisher said the children were upset about the break-in.
“I was a bit shocked and disgusted that they could break children’s toys,” she said.
“The children were saddened because they have nothing to play on and it’s not good for their physical development. There are a few bikes that have been returned after they were thrown in some bushes.”
Jaqui Lavelle, from Ironbridge, who has a grandson at the nursery, said: “I was horrified, as were parents and staff. To think that young babies and toddlers were the target of such a mindless act.”
Chris Ammonds, of Telford police, said: “There was another burglary in Halesfield over the weekend where £250 was stolen from a business and we are investigating to see if the two are linked.”
