A woman has died after her car plunged down a steep embankment at a Shropshire beauty spot.

Paramedics were called to the Burway on the Long Mynd near Church Stretton just before 11.30am today.

An ambulance crew, a rapid response unit with an incident support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance attended.

When they arrived, they found the woman, who police believe was the driver, out of the car with the fire service in attendance and resuscitation attempts being made.

Chris Kowalik, of West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “The ambulance crew took over resuscitation attempts at the scene. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the crews, nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Meanwhile, a driver who died in a road smash in Telford was today named as 20-year-old Jamie Thomas, from Leicester Way, Leegomery.

Mr Thomas, who died on his birthday, was travelling in his Nissan Almera from Leegomery to Humber Lane in Donnington shortly before 7am on Monday when he was in collision with a Toyota Hiace van.

A 15-year-old youth injured in the crash was today in a critical condition in hospital in Stoke-on-Trent.

Telford police spokeswoman, Denise Wakefield, appealed for anyone who saw the red Nissan Almera driving between Leegomery and Humber Lane on the morning of the accident to call officers on 0300 333 3000.

A motorcyclist who died in a collision with a car in Stourbridge Road at Gateacre Hill, on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, on Sunday afternoon was also named today as 41-year-old Neal Joshi, of Hockley, Tamworth.
