Town roadworks warning
Wednesday 23rd September 2009, 1:48PM BST.
Motorists are bracing themselves for another month of traffic chaos in Shrewsbury with roadworks set to start on a main route into the town on Monday.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place along Ditherington Road while work takes place to connect water, telephone wires and electricity to the site of the planned Persimmon Homes development.
And more work relating to the scheme is expected to take place in January when a mini-roundabout is due to be installed.
Today Neil Follows, managing director for Persimmon Homes North West, said the company wanted to apologise for any disruption the work may cause.
People living along the road today spoke of their dismay over the news which comes after roadworks relating to the project were carried out earlier this year.
Joyce Cheadle, 56, who lives in Spring Gardens, said: “It is a nuisance – when they had roadworks before the backlog of traffic would go past my window for days on end.
“The dust was horrendous, you could dust the house every day and it was a waste of time.”
But Julie Halliwell, manager of Lin’s Flowers on Spring Gardens, said she did not think the works would impact on her too badly and might even have some benefits. She said: “The traffic will be quite slow so there might be a little bit more passing trade.”

Surely not another story about people in Shropshire “bracing themselves” for something?
Please could you add some new clichés to your repertoire? That one’s become very stale.
