Gidney is quietly confident

Shropshire golfer Jonathan Gidney was this afternoon bidding to maintain his strong start to life as a professional, writes JAMES GARRISON.
Gidney began his European Tour qualifying school campaign at The Oxfordshire yesterday with a one-over-par round of 73 in tough conditions.
That represented a fine start on the day he moved into the paid ranks, and left him 35th in the 116-strong field.
The leading 27 and ties after the fourth round on Friday will progress to the second of three qualifying stages which will be held in Spain in November, with almost 1,000 players from across Europe bidding for 30 cards on the main Tour.
Gidney, meanwhile, was happy with his opening round as a professional.
“I’ve had lots of support and good luck messages over the last week or so and there was a bit of pressure,” said the 22-year-old from Church Stretton.
“I’m pleased with the way I played and with my score and I’m confident for the rest of the week.”
