Shropshire’s gold medal-winning judoka Sarah Adlington has been praised along with her British team-mates after a triumphant GB World Cup.
Adlington, who is originally from Bayston Hill but is now based in Edinburgh, struck gold in the over-78kgs category, winning the coveted title for the second year running.
The 23-year-old was one of four Brits to win gold in Birmingham at the weekend, much to the delight of the squad’s head coach Patrick Roux.
“The last six months have been a period of great change with our focus being around the structure and plan for the Olympic cycle,” he said.
“It has been extremely positive to see the players achieving at this competition and indicates we have a good platform to build from.
“We were able to use the GB World cup as an enhanced training opportunity. The players were encouraged by the coaches to strive to throw for Ippon, which means taking risks and not limiting themselves.
“As a result we saw some good technical improvements from our players – particularly the medalists.”
