Telford cup clash missing loan pair

Bucks_logo2AFC Telford United will have to cope without Tamworth loan pair Gavin Hurren and Stuart Nicholson for Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Pegasus Juniors.

Telford have been denied permission by the Lambs to include the duo in their second qualifying round tie at the New Bucks Head.

But they can involve their other two loan men, with left-back Sean Newton from Barrow and Oxford United centre-back Shane Killock both cleared to play.

“Tamworth don’t want their players cup-tied,” assistant manager Larry Chambers revealed. “If we did a permanent deal for either of them before the weekend they could play, but we’re not looking to do that.

“Sean Newton and Shane Killock have been given permission by their respective clubs, which is a boost for us.”

The Bucks will be without striker Iyseden Christie due to a hamstring injury, though he may not be out as long as first feared.

The initial diagnosis was that he would be sidelined for three weeks, but Chambers believes he could beat that prognosis.

“Iyseden thinks he could be okay for the weekend but I don’t think he’ll be risked,” the Bucks No 2 added.

“I would say he will be ruled out for a minimum of two weeks, though it’s maybe not as bad as we first thought.”

One striker who should feature against Pegasus is the out-of-form Danny Carey-Bertram, who was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Eastwood.

Carey-Bertram was the Bucks’ top scorer last season but is yet to hit the target this term.

“The way Danny’s going, we thought it wouldn’t do him any harm to have a week away from it,” said Chambers.

“But he’ll be back in on Saturday. He’s got two training sessions this week and hopefully the break will have done him good.”
