Traders feel lucky after collision

Traders say it was “just luck” that nobody was injured when a trailer carrying straw bales collided with scaffolding around a building in a Mid Wales town.
Traffic in the centre of Knighton came to a standstill after the collision at about 1.40pm on Friday, forcing police to shut Broad Street.
Workers were said to be on the scaffolding at the time but nobody was injured, although some of the scaffolding was damaged.
Firefighters from Presteigne made the scene safe and traffic was diverted around the town.
Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman Sian George said the street was cordoned off because of fears the scaffolding could collapse.
She said: “It was very lucky that no-one was injured.”
Anna Shaw, of The Flower Box, which is directly opposite the collision site, said: “I was in the back of the shop when I heard a lot of shouting. I went out and saw there had been a collision.
“I think there were some workers on the scaffolding but they all got down safely. It was lucky nobody was injured.
“It was pretty light-hearted and jovial afterwards. Some of the scaffolding looked bent out of shape but other than that everything was fine.
“A lot of people came on to the street to have a look at what was going on and the road was closed for a while.”
Julia Roberts, from the Tower House Gallery, said the incident did not affect business but did cause a lot of interest among residents.
She said: “We are about 50 yards from where it happened. It was probably just luck that nobody was injured.”
