Market Drayton Town overcame their “worst performance of the season” to storm up to third position in UniBond League division one south, writes JAMES GARRISON.

A brace from Matthew Biddle and goals from Paul McMullen and Gary Anslow helped Drayton to a 4-2 victory over Quorn, who were reduced to 10 men just before half-time.

The Greenfields men led 3-1 at that point but were pushed all the way before sealing the points through Anslow late on.

“I was delighted with the result but it was by far our worst performance of the season,” said manager Simon Line.

“We only really came too life for 10 or 15 minutes at the end of the first half and we didn’t keep possession well enough when they were down to 10 men in the second half.

“That made it too close for comfort but it shows how far we have come when we were all disappointed with the performance but still won a game at this level fairly comfortably.”

Line is delighted to find his team in such a lofty position in the table as the 10-game mark approaches.

“I have to keep checking to make sure the table is right because it is quite a feat,” he added.

“Nothing ever surprises me about my lads. When we have played against teams from a higher league in the past we have performed well so I was confident we wouldn’t embarrass ourselves at this level.”
