Town to run rule over ace Nathan

Saturday 19th September 2009, 9:59AM BST.

Shropshire scoring sensation Nathan Hodge will be given a second chance to catch the eye of Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson next week.

Hodge has been invited to training on Monday and Tuesday, and is pencilled in to play some part in Wednesday’s reserve team game at Port Vale.

The 20-year-old came to Simpson’s attention following a blistering start to the season for Ludlow in the West Midlands League premier division where he has scored 15 goals in eight games already this season.

Hodge, who has also been prolific for Church Stretton in the Shrewsbury Sunday League and Herefordshire Premier League outfit Wooferton, impressed on Tuesday when he was given a chance to play for Town reserves against Walsall at the Prostar Stadium.

“Nathan is going to come in on Monday and Tuesday and it will be ideal to give him the chance to work with the pros,” said Simpson.

Meanwhile, Town physio Nathan Ring has rejected the chance to move to the moneybags of League Two, Notts County.

The Magpies offered Ring, who began working with the Town first team last season after a spell at youth level, a role at Meadow Lane.

But Simpson has revealed the opportunity has been rejected.

“We all know the excitement that is going around at Notts County at the moment with the investment and players they were bringing in,” said Simpson.

“They were looking for a physio and approached Nathan with a job offer to join them.

“He thought about the offer but I’m delighted to say that he’s chosen to stay with us.

“Nathan can develop as a physio here and I’m delighted he is staying as I believe that keeping stability in the medical team is a big part of our football club.”
